It’s great to have the freedom on a Monday afternoon to be able to take the children to the park. We are lucky to have such good facilities in our village. All the children love to play outside in the fresh air, getting plenty of exercise and having fun with their friends. They are developing their large bodily strength, which also helps them to develop the small motor skills which they need in controlling small tools, e.g. pencils and scissors.
As parents are aware, we are constantly observing the children to find out any current interests they have. We can then plan activities we know the children will enjoy and get more out of to accelerate their individual progress. That’s why we have been learning about knights and castles! Quite a few of our children are keen on knights and their play reflects this. So, we have been reading books about castles, making castle walls to create a castle play area, constructing cardboard shields and swords, making bows and learning-at Forest Fun-to shoot arrows safely.
Thursday afternoons are a great opportunity to do some of these extra activities. Apart from having a lovely lunch together, the children are enjoying learning new skills.
